Gwen John's home at Meudon, probably 1920s.
"....
But John did not paint the magnificent vista from the Meudon Observatory. Parisian scenes punctuated by well-known landmarks were a cliché even by this time. Instead, she chose two Meudon subjects: a view from a particular window in her top-floor rooms at rue Terre Neuve, and scenes of the towns streets at night. According to a visitor to the rue Terre Neuve in 1929, there were two dormer windows in the attic studio. One looked over Paris, and from it you could see the dome of the Sacre Cour in the far distance. The other, from which Gwen John chose to paint, looked out onto the road leading to the Meudon Observatory terrace, which was surrounded by the fresh greenery of the trees.
