Pierre-Auguste Renoir #3

Pierre-Auguste Renoir in his studio c.1910.

"Renoir (1841-1919), suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis for the last 25 years of his life. Looking at his paintings, it is easy to forget that the Impressionist master suffered from the increasingly debilitating disease. Easels with pulleys and brushes strapped to his deformed fingers were some of the devices that Renoir had to employ to keep painting. Despite the deforming effects of the disease, he continued to paint and produced more than 400 paintings." (bron: an experiment in depth)
