Allen Jones RA is one of Britain’s leading painters, printmakers and major public space sculptors who lives, as well as in London, in north Oxfordshire where he has created a beautiful garden and arboretum. Located here, the new studio is north lit with a sculpture store and archive/drawing platform. From another platform in the studio the garden can be contemplated.
The engineers contrived a steel frame for these large pitched roof volumes that did not require any piers or tie rods, so the spaces are elemental. Externally, roof and walls are universally clad in cedar with a small plinth of local stone. The cruciform roof allows there to be north light glazing in the pitch above the central painting wall as well as in the north wall of the building which overlooks the garden." (bron: CZWG)
