Donald Judd #2

"Currently under restoration by his foundation, Donald Judd bought this cast-iron building in 1968 on Spring, which was then appropriately called “The Cast Iron District.” Built by Nicholas Whyte, and was as home to various industrial businesses over the years, as much of Soho. Judd lived and worked (when in not in Marfa, Texas) here for years, not just making his own Minimalist work, but also preserving one of Soho’s single use buildings from that era.

101 Spring is considered to be the first permanent installations. Kind of like Frank Lloyd Wright’s all- encompassing belief that he needed to design the exterior, interior and furnishings of his home to exact his vision, Judd believed that the placement of art works, furniture and decor were linked- arranging them all to create one cohesive art experience. Judd died in 1994, and the art and furnishings have remained how he placed them in 101 Spring." (bron: Art Nerd New York)
